In 1988, the Alumni Association began a project
for alumni members to sponsor a chair in the
Alumni Theater of the new Houghton High School.
The auditorium is used for concerts, theatrical
productions, cultural events, and community
events. Alumni members may sponsor a chair with
a $150 donation to the Houghton-Portage Township
School District. A brass plate with the donor's
name and graduation date will be affixed to a
chair in the Alumni Theater. Chairs may also be
sponsored in memory of others or by groups and
organizations.
To sponsor a chair, mail a $150 check along with
your name and date of graduation to:

The Bernard F. Gaffney Scholarship Fund was
established in 2000 to honor the memory of Mr.
Gaffney who was the principal of Houghton High
School from 1937 to 1961 and the Superintendent
of Houghton-Portage Township Schools from 1961
to 1966. Mr. Ted Gaffney, along with a group of
alumni from the Class of 1947, has been
instrumental in establishing and promoting the
scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to
help students or graduates who demonstrate
