The Houghton High School Alumni Association sponsor several projects, and encourages HHS alumni to help make them a success. Learn more about each:

Alumni Gifts to Houghton High School

At each All-Class Reunion it has been a tradition for the Alumni Association to present a gift to Houghton High School. Here is a list of the gifts from each reunion:

Sponsor a Chair in the Alumni Theater

In 1988, the Alumni Association began a project for alumni members to sponsor a chair in the Alumni Theater of the new Houghton High School. The auditorium is used for concerts, theatrical productions, cultural events, and community events. Alumni members may sponsor a chair with a $150 donation to the Houghton-Portage Township School District. A brass plate with the donor's name and graduation date will be affixed to a chair in the Alumni Theater. Chairs may also be sponsored in memory of others or by groups and organizations.

To sponsor a chair, mail a $150 check along with your name and date of graduation to:

Bernard F. Gaffney Scholarship Fund

The Bernard F. Gaffney Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to honor the memory of Mr. Gaffney who was the principal of Houghton High School from 1937 to 1961 and the Superintendent of Houghton-Portage Township Schools from 1961 to 1966. Mr. Ted Gaffney, along with a group of alumni from the Class of 1947, has been instrumental in establishing and promoting the scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to help students or graduates who demonstrate character, need, and determination to achieve their specific educational or training goals. The fund is administered by the Keweenaw Community Foundation.
