Media Center / Library

The Houghton Elementary School Media Center has a variety of materials for use by students, parents, and staff. Children visit the library weekly and checkout books for recreational reading or assignments.

Students have a weekly library class period. During this time students check out books and have a lesson. Instruction centers on information skills, literature appreciation, and use of library materials. Students may visit the library for additional book exchanges. Computers are located in the library. These computers allow access to Houghton's computerized card catalog system as well as to other software programs and the Internet. Students may search the catalog for materials by author, title, subject or keyword. The catalog indicates a material's status to let the child know whether the item is available or checked out.

The elementary library is open Monday through Friday 8:00 - 3:30 p.m.
